Obituary of Barbara Gloria Nigro

Barbara Gloria Nigro (nee Galimi), 91 years old, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on August 19, 2021, at the Dobson House Hospice in Chandler, Arizona. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY to Vincenzo Galimi and Lucy Galimi (nee Catanzaro) on October 4, 1929. She attended school in New York City. She married Vincent Nigro on October 19, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY. Primarily a homemaker, Barbara worked in a variety of jobs including dressmaking, doll making and as a cafeteria staff member in the Kyrene School District. After having raised five children, Barbara and Vincent relocated to Arizona to enjoy their retirement. Barbara was a member of AFAN in Ahwatukee and participated in a number of their events. She enjoyed crocheting and made a number of blankets and throws for her family. If anyone ever loved Bingo, it was Barbara. She enjoyed playing whenever she could. Barbara had an indomitable spirit and loved being surrounded by her family. She had a great affinity for Saint John Neumann and Saint Lucy. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband and parents as well as two siblings, Salvatore Galimi and Mary Libano. Barbara is survived by her children Dominick (Susan), Joan Malinowski, Vincent Nigro, Jr., Linda Connor (James), Karen Iannacone (Dennis), four Grandchildren, Joseph Malinowski, III, David P. Nigro, Kristina Connor and Julia Connor in addition to 3 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Frances Pisano and a brother, Joseph Galimi. Viewing will be a private family event due to Covid -19 concerns at Samaritan Funeral Home-Ahwatukee, 4647 E Chandler Blvd, #6, Phoenix, AZ 85044. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 10am at Corpus Christi Church, 3550 E Knox Road, Phoenix, AZ 85044 with Fr. Scott Sperry officiating. Interment will be a Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to YOPAS and the Foundation for Blind Children. YOPAS provides assistance to seniors in Ahwatukee, donations can be mailed to YOPAS, Attn: Donation Barbara Nigro, 1030 E Liberty Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85048.
