Martha Cassata

Obituary of Martha Ann Cassata

Martha Ann Cassata, 68, of Phoenix Arizona passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2022. "Marti", as she was also known by friends, was born September 28, 1953 in Phoenix to Ruby and Donald Pomeroy. She was a kind and empathetic person, who was atuned to others feelings and always had the easy ability to comfort those in her presence. She was also fun-loving, courageous and determined to always take the high road no matter what was in her path.

She was named after both of her grandmothers', whom she loved dearly. One of her favorite childhood memories was going to the Baseline Flower Gardens with them and getting her own bouquet of sweet peas and stock. This fueled her future love of plants and gardening.

Not long after leaving North High School, she met and later married the "love of her life",Rick, and soon after, she had her daughter Christi and son Cory. She was a dedicated wife and mother and made sure there was never any question of how much she loved her family.

Martha was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing with others. She loved shopping (especially for antiques) and being artistically creative (loved art, music and played piano). She always rooted for her local sports teams and had a soft spot for animals, especially for her three dogs she leaves behind.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Riccardo Cassata; daughter, Christina Cassata; son, John Cory Cassata; her brother, Wayne (Marilu) Pomeroy; sister-in-law / best friend, Angelica "Angie" Bocchini; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews (whom she loved and cared for like her own); cousins; friends / children's friends. She will be tremendously missed by those she left behind.

Her family will be accepting flowers directly, but also ask if you would like to make donations to animal charities of your choice, to honor Martha's love of animals. They also encourage you to share your memories.
