Obituary of Sally Ruby Perez

With great sadness her family announces the passing of our dear aunt, Sally Ruby Perez.  Known more commonly by family as “Aunt Ruby,” she died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, May 15, 2022, of natural causes.  She was 88 years old and a lifelong native of Arizona.

She was born in Prescott, AZ, on January 6, 1934.  Her parents were Refugio and Inez Ramirez Perez.  Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fred Perez, Manuel Flores, sistersVera Garcia, Margie Duarte, and nephews dear to her heart, Chuck Garcia Sr., Angelo Duarte, Fred Perez, Jr., and Richard Perez.  Her brother, Joseph Perez, still lives in Temecula, CAwith his family.

Aunt Ruby had no biological children of her own.  However, she loved and was close to her nieces and nephews, and especially close to Yoli Bounds and Valerie Stringer of Prescott, with whom she vacationed and spent all holidays. Her nephews,Charles Garcia, Jr. of Phoenix, Anthony Garcia of TX, Ron Perez of Flagstaff, and David Peterson of Snowflake always kept in close contact with her by frequent visits or phone calls.

Sally Ruby graduated from Prescott High School in in 1952, and relocated to Phoenix soon after, thriving in the payroll and bookkeeping business at Leonard’s Luggage, then Goodyear Aerospace Corporation until her first retirement.  After that, being the energetic and efficient worker she always was, she ended her second retirement at Manheim Auto Auction in Tolleson, AZ.  She was also active in her community as a poll worker on election days, and active in her favorite charities.

Aunt Ruby was known as a “second mother” by many of her nieces and nephews, and even younger friends.  She was outgoing and especially warm and friendly with everyone, no matter where she lived or worked.  Her vibrant and spiritual personality drew people to want to spend time with her, and her kind and thoughtful ways made everyone want to know her.  She attended Calvary Phoenix Church with her neighbors, spoke often and fondly of them and was always grateful for those that assisted her in so many ways.  She lived in Phoenix with her tenant and friend, Patricia Gonzalez.  Aunt Ruby will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her. 

Sally Ruby Perez’s memorial service will be held in Phoenix on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Samaritan Funeral home, 1505 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85006, from 3 to 6pm.  All who knew her are welcome to attend.  Inurnment will take place later in Prescott, AZ, per her wishes. There is a Ruby Perez GoFundMe link at https://gofund.me/db7a9c4f if you would like to donate in lieu of flowers.
