Obituary of Helen Hernandez

On Friday, January 27, 2023, Maria Elena (Helen) Hernandez, loving wife and mother of seven children, passed away at age 88.

Helen was born on February 8, 1934 in Phoenix, AZ to Maria Jesus Calderon and Jose Ollarsaba. She received her G.E.D in 1998 and began teaching English as a Second Language at the Friendly House for 2 1/2 years. On December 23, 1951 at Immaculate Heart Church, she married Miguel V. Hernandez. They raised a large and loving family. 

Helen was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. She had a passion for cooking, singing, ironing, crocheting, dancing and most of all, the love of her life, taking care of her family. We cant forget her main goal was to go hiking on a daily bases.

Helen is survived by her seven children, Mario, Yolanda, Leticia, Norma, Orlando, Magdalena and Amelia, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and several cousins, many nieces and  nephews.

 A Viewing Service will be held at Living Word Ahwatukee located at 14647 S 50th St, Phoenix, AZ 85044 on 2/17/2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and followed by a Celebration of Life located at

2580 E. Winston Dr. Phx., Az 85042
