My Brother Ken,
Ken was born 2 ½ years after me, and the closeness in age made for a perfect environment for lots of brotherly quarrels and disagreements. My way of doing things was more traditional; whereas, Ken’s path took many twists and turns, in which his personal worldview became, “I am Ken Reed, an individual, and not a follower, and I will march to the beat of my own drum” which is ironic since playing drums was one of his passions. This path led Ken to experience many fulfilling avenues in his all-too-short life: deferring college until later in life and instead joining the marines, his passion for jazz, pursuing writing as a profession, and developing a love of golf ( A love we both shared).
Later in our adult years we became closer, though distance made it more of a telephone relationship. I looked forward to our discussions, even though it was often necessary to pry a few more words from him, he was the ultimate quiet man.
Ken was a renaissance man, he was many things to different people, and I am glad that he was my brother, and I love him.
