Lola, Kathy, Karla and Karen,
What we remember about Bill was his smile. He would sit back and observe people and then after he had thought about what he wanted to say, he would tell you and bless you with that smile and gentle laugh. In sitting with him on committee meetings, we learned how to "play well with others". He taught us how to disagree with someone without being disagreeable. Our prayers are with you during this time of memory.

Lola, you and Bill lovingly reached out to our family 16 years ago when we moved to Montrose, and introduced us immediately to Bill's popcorn! What a treat that was. We enjoyed your friendship over the years, although it seems we saw less and less of each other - attributable to aging, on our part, for sure! We are so sorry for your loss, and share the hope of eternity together with loved ones when Jesus comes to take us home. I know that Bill believed in and looked forward to that day. May God's love wrap you in His arms, and give you peace as you face the days ahead. With much love, Carlton and Kay

He was my older brother, It was rough being his younger brother, because he did everything right, I never heard of him doing anything wrong. All the relatives loved him, I enjoyed the trips to Pennsylvania with him. We looked up family and visited a lot of cemetarys. My wife made pies when he was here and sometimes that was breakfast for him, He seemed to really like her peach pie, but any would do. He said eating fruit for breakfast was good for him. I feel blessed that I was able to talk to him on Karlas phone and "Facetime" a couple of times, I thank Karla for that. I hope that all of my nieces find a way to get thru this hard time.

When I came out to Colorado to do Karla's wedding Bill took me jeeping one day and I will never forget the fun time that we had. I think that is why when I moved to Colorado I bought a jeep. Each time I go four wheeling I think of Uncle Bill. He will be sorely missed!

I can't think of any one special memory of Uncle Bill. All my memories are a very special sweet, kind, smart man who loved his family unconditionally. We will look forward to seeing him again soon. I know my mom thought her older brother was really special! She mentioned how close they were as kids.

Bill was born on August 5, 1926 in Battle Creek, MI to Roy & Dorothy Spaulding. He and Lola were married on September 24, 1950. Bill spent two years in the army and then went to college using the GI Bill to become an optometrist. He and Lola settled in Montrose, CO in 1961 where they raised their three daughters. Bill had an optometry practice in Montrose from 1961 until retiring in 1991. His hobbies included taking care of his rental properties, making sure his huge lawns looked beautiful, reading and spending time with family. In 1999 he and Lola became official snowbirds when they purchased a townhouse in Phoenix, AZ to spend more time with their children and grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Rest in peace until we meet again.
