Obituary of Harold Norman Callaway

Harold (Hal) Norman Callaway of Mesa, Arizona passed away on December 18, 2023, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward.

Hal was a long time resident of the Kansas City area, graduating from Shawnee-Mission North High School in 1962. He attended the University of Kansas for several years where he was a member of the school track team. He left school to serve in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969. Following the completion of his military service he returned to Kansas University to complete his BS degree in Education.

He moved to Morrison, Colorado where he lived for many years to savor his love of the mountains. He worked in sporting goods sales, traveling extensively through Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. Later in life he moved to the Phoenix area.

Hal was an avid tennis player, hiker, mountain climber, skier and biker. He rode in numerous Pedal the Peaks and Ride the Rockies long distance biking events in Colorado. In 2004, at age 60, he summited Mount Kilimanjaro with an old college friend. In his last years he loved four wheeling in Colorado and Utah with friends.

Most importantly, Cork -- as he was known to his close friends – was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor, a generous heart … and he was a treasured friend.
